Guitarist leads search for talent

THE guitarist from one of the most influential bands of the last 20 years will be launching a project to find a new generation of creative talent in a Yorkshire city tomorrow.

John Squire, who was one of the founding members of the iconic Manchester band, The Stone Roses, will be in York for the official launch of a non-for-profit artistic hub.

The guitarist has himself now carved out a successful career as a contemporary artist after The Stone Roses broke up in 1996.

He will be at Bar Lane Studios, which has been designed to provide an outlet for the region's creative talent and to support new emerging artists.

An exhibition of Mr Squire's artwork will be on show there until May 21.

Bar Lane Studios, just off Micklegate, has been funded by York St John University, Science City York and the York Council.
