Gunman in club revenge shootings jailed for 13 years

A GUNMAN who injured three customers at a Bradford city centre nightclub when he opened fire in a revenge attack has been jailed for a total of 13 years.

Omar Shah, 24, was wanted for drug dealing when he was thrown out of the Cube nightspot in Ivegate last November.

Dave Mackay, prosecuting, said excessive force had been used by one of the door staff but as he left Shah threatened to come back and shoot them.

Shah, of Quaker Lane, Canterbury, Bradford, returned after 20 minutes carrying a sawn-off shotgun.

He fired it twice towards customer Christopher Silsdon and a doorman standing outside the club.

Mr Silsdon was later found to have about 80 pellet wounds to his back, neck, arms and head.

Shah was then seen on closed circuit TV to push open the door to the bar area and fire another shot towards the DJ stand.

The shot knocked customer Howard Brown to the floor and another clubber, Kamran Mahmood, suffered an eye injury.

Shah then ran out of the club, but he fired another shot in direction of a man who was standing a the bottom of Ivegate.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Mr Brown suffered blister-type injuries to his chest and shoulder.

Shah admitted offences of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two offences of assault and possessing a sawn-off shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence.

Yesterday he was jailed for 10 years for the offences that night.

Back in August last year Shah had been caught dealing heroin and crack cocaine from a car in Bradford and Judge Alistair McCallum sentenced him to a further three years for those drugs offences.

Sukhbir Bassra, defending, said his client had been dealt with brutally by the door staff when he was ejected from the club, but he conceded it was no excuse for what he did.

Mr Bassra said Shah’s intention had been to scare people.
