Traditional stalls, games and children’s amusements will rub shoulders with the latest white knuckle rides at the fair, which dates back to 1293.

Coun Gemmell said: “The opening of this event will be one of the highlights of my term of office.

“The fair is a fantastic family occasion not just for the visitors, but for the show people themselves. Some of these families have been involved in the fair for many generations.”

Children’s rides and refreshment stalls will be open from 2pm each day with the rest of the fair swinging into action from 4pm and finishing at around 10.30pm.

Hull Council is urging people to use the bus as there is limited parking at the KC Stadium because of ongoing work in West Park.

There will be a special park and ride operating from the Humber Bridge car park running from 3pm to 11pm Monday to Friday and noon to 11pm on Saturdays.

The usual park and ride 701 from Priory Park will be operating additional services until 11pm.
