Hall renovation sees young painters brush up skills

Senior academics have given one of their oldest buildings an interior makeover and saved money by setting their painting and decorating students to work on the project.

The Old Hall, part of the University Centre Doncaster at High Melton is currently undergoing a revamp to make it more welcoming and to provide space for art students to exhibit work.

The hall, which includes four large corridors and several entrance foyers, was made into a project for painting and decorating students from Doncaster College to allow them to work in an environment which was always open to students and staff.

A college spokesman said: “The students involved had to take measurements as well as take into consideration health and safety due to working in a live environment.

“The project involved various departments and many people working together and co-operating across the college and students will use the work that they have done in the Old Hall as part of their course assessment.

“That will help them towards their final grade as well as providing a service to the college.”

“In all, the hall has taken four weeks to makeover, and it is planned that it will eventually have white frames on the walls and strategically placed plinths to house work from different art courses at Doncaster College and at the University Centre Doncaster.”

It is hoped that students from the fine art, fashion, photography, graphic design, sculpture and ceramics departments will display work to welcome visitors to the campus.
