Hall’s varied gardens provide inspiration for young artists

YOUNG artists are being given the chance to seek inspiration from the gardens of one of Yorkshire’s stately homes while they take part in summer workshops.

A series of events is being staged throughout the summer holidays at Beningbrough Hall, near York, to give children the opportunity to hone their artistic skills.

The Artrageous workshops at the National Trust property began yesterday and will run every Monday and Tuesday until the end of next month.

Youngsters were yesterday taken round the Georgian mansion’s gardens to see some of the floral displays before they took part in workshops to make felt flowers.

The grounds of Beningbrough Hall, which was built in 1716, include a Victorian conservatory, box-edged rose gardens, a lily pool and a walled garden.

The 18th century mansion is also renowed for its fine interiors where more than 100 portraits are on display.

The workshops will also include activities such as making Georgian fans, coins and musical instruments.

Children will also have the chance to design their own personal jockey silks before parading them on the hall’s hobby horses.

The free drop-in sessions take place each Monday and Tuesday between 1pm and 3pm.
