The Pavilions venue at the town's Great Yorkshire Showground announced a record number of bookings for the first two months of 2017.

Since January, 20 weddings have taken place and the Royal Agricultural Society is now targeting clients with Indian and Pakistani heritage.

They are working with specialist suppliers who cater for the Asian marriage industry, and have marketed the venue's location, which has good access to the A1 and to Leeds.

Manager Graham Thompson said:

“We’ve always been a popular venue for Asian weddings as we can offer the capacity of up to 450 guests as well as the exclusivity of the private lawns. We’ve now taken on new specialist suppliers in Asian weddings including room decorators and caterers and word is spreading that the Pavilions is the place to hold your special day.”

The Pavilions has just finished celebrating its 20th anniversary year. Since opening in 1996, it has hosted 11 Royal visits, 513 weddings, 485 exhibitions and over 7,000 corporate events.

It has 14 rooms, 250 acres of outdoor space and free parking.
