Harry hopes Diana would be ‘proud’ of Africa charity work

Prince Harry launched a major new fundraising project for his charity Sentebale last night and said he hoped his mother Diana, Princess of Wales would be “proud” of his efforts.

Harry mentioned his late mother as he gave a speech at a gala dinner at the Summer Place in Johannesburg, South Africa, after spending three days in neighbouring Lesotho where his organisation works to help disadvantaged children. The royal hopes to raise £2.5m to build the Mamohato Centre, which will expand the charity’s service of providing psychological care and peer mentoring for children and young people with HIV/Aids.

It will be built on the sacred land of Thabu-Bosiu in Lesotho, known to many as the birthplace of the nation.

Earlier the prince was given a lesson in sign-language as he visited deaf and blind children living in an impoverished African nation. After he had taken part in a home economics class at the Kananelo Centre for the Deaf in Lesotho, pupils taught the third-in-line to the throne how to say “Prince Harry” in sign language.

Harry was joined by Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso, who co-founded charity Sentebale with him in 2006. Later, the two princes visited the St Bernadette’s Resource Centre for the Blind.
