Harry Ramsden’s returns to motorway network

Harry Ramsden’s is to open its first UK outlet at a Welcome Break service station in South Yorkshire.

The fish and chips empire, which began in Guiseley, and the motorway service area operator are joining forces for the first time at Welcome Break Woodall, near Sheffield, in a move that will create 10 new jobs.

December 11 hails the return of Harry Ramsden’s to the country’s motorway network with an opening at the motorway service station on the M1, between junctions 31 and 30.

Joe Teixeira, CEO of Harry Ramsden’s, said: “Welcome Break presents an exciting opportunity for us, as it is our firm intention to make Harry Ramsden’s more accessible to the myriad of fans it has built up over 85 years.

“We view the opening of this new outlet as the next step in making that ambition a reality. Situated within great facilities which attract millions of visitors each year, I believe the new restaurant will be welcomed by existing customers, as well as affording us the opportunity to introduce the brand to a new generation.”

Harry Ramsden’s currently operates 26 outlets across the country. However an ambitious growth strategy will see an increase in the number of company-owned outlets, while interest in their new franchising model is expected to result in up to 250 franchised outlets opening within the next five years.

Rod McKie, Welcome Break CEO, said: “This is a partnership that we predict to go from strength to strength and we fully expect that we will be introducing Harry Ramsden’s to other Welcome Breaks across the UK in the very near future.”
