Have your say on rival traffic plans

THE public are being invited to join in the debate about how to ease traffic congestion at Pontefract's Town End junction.

Wakefield Council will hold events at Pontefract Town Hall's Nelson Room on Wednesday, November 10 and Friday, November 12 from 10am and 7pm each day to give people the opportunity to have their say.

The authority is displaying a number of different layouts to stimulate discussion about how to ease traffic gridlock.

The layouts on display will include a large single roundabout, a new double mini-roundabout layout and a traffic signal gyratory system with a one-way link from Mill Hill Road to Wakefield Road.

Coun Denise Jeffery, deputy leader of Wakefield Council with responsibility for regeneration and economic growth, said yesterday: "This junction is recognised as one of the worst bottlenecks in the district and we understand people's concerns and frustrations. That is why we want to get as many views and comments on the alternative layouts as possible.

"We hope people will come along and fill in questionnaires so we can collect public opinion and are in a position to move forward."
