Having a shot at country life

Hunting, shooting and fishing demonstrations were enjoyed by thousands during a two-day celebration in Yorkshire of country life.

The Great North Country Fair at Harewood House, Leeds, featured a wide range of country pursuits and gave visitors the opportunity of trying their hand at some of them.

Peter Setterfield, chairman of the Guild of Shooting Instructors, manned the shooting line, while top anglers including Charles Jardine and Hywel Morgan demonstrated the art of catching fish.

Rather more unusual pursuits, such as ferret and pig racing, ran alongside dog shows for lurchers and terriers and puppy racing. A 400m course was set up to allow racing, simulated coursing and hurdling.

The event, held over the weekend, also included steam vehicles, Land Rovers, tractors, commercial vehicles and an old style funfair.
