Head guilty overstudent's roof fall

A headteacher has been found guilty of failing to take reasonable care for the safety of his students after a pupil fell through a skylight.

John Summerfield, 64, took a group of “slightly inebriated” sixth-formers on to the roof of Sacred Heart Catholic College in Crosby, Merseyside. Joel Murray, then 18, tumbled 8ft into a corridor. As well as a fractured skull and broken ribs, he perforated an eardrum and suffered permanent eye damage. Summerfield is to be sentenced next month.
