Two other staff who were suspended during the probe will receive “sanctions”.

Sue Johnson, Wakefield Council’s service director for schools and life learning, said: “Three disciplinary hearings have now taken place following the investigation into allegations of maladministration of Key Stage 2 SATS at Airedale Junior School.

“During the investigation, the three members of staff involved were suspended to allow for a full and detailed investigation to take place.

“The headteacher has been dismissed and has now left the school and two other members of staff will receive sanctions.”

A parent complained to the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency after children took their SATS in English, maths and science last May.

The agency launched a probe into “alleged maladministration” and said some test results from 2009 were annulled owing to “sufficient doubt” over their validity.

The parent, who did not want to be named, said: “I am delighted with the dismissal of Mr Habberjam and it is the right decision.

“But I would like to know why it took so long and parents should have been kept informed as to what was happening.”

Mr Habberjam could not be reached for comment.
