Health and leisure centre backed

a proposed new community health and leisure centre in Leeds has been given financial backing by the Government.

Funding for Holt Park Wellbeing Centre was put on hold last year as the Department of Health re-evaluated the £30m Private Finance Initiative scheme.

Yesterday it was announced the centre has now got the go-ahead.

Leeds North West Liberal Democrat MP Greg Mulholland, who campaigned alongside residents for the funding to be provided, said: “Having worked closely with the residents of Holt Park as well as with local councillors, the council and NHS Leeds, I am delighted that the Department for Health is to provide the funding needed for the development of the Holt Park Wellbeing Centre will be provided and the development of this brilliant new facility can now go ahead

“Holt Park and the surrounding area have been in desperate need of redevelopment and the news that the Wellbeing Centre has been given the go ahead is a huge boost for the whole area and the residents that will benefit from the range of services it will offer.”

The centre, to include a pool, cafe and activity rooms, will replace Holt Park Leisure Centre.
