Healthy choice for patients surveyed

PATIENTS are to have more choice on who provides certain health services in Calderdale.

Residents living in Calderdale were asked in a survey which community-based services they would like to see more choice in when, where and who provides them.

Based on the responses, NHS Calderdale will now open up the following services to any qualified provider: adult hearing tests in the community, diagnostic tests and psychological therapies for adults.

Calderdale Commissioning Group – the group of GPs who take over the commissioning of services from 2013 – will now open up these services to other providers.

Ann Ballarini, executive director of commissioning and service development for NHS Calderdale, NHS Wakefield District and NHS Kirklees cluster, said:

“This will increase the choice for local patients.

“We’ll keep them up to date with developments.

“We’d like to thank everyone who completed the survey.”

The move is part of a longstanding government pledge to allow patients more choice over how and where they are treated.
