THE thought of paying for this year’s winter utility bills has topped a poll of the nation’s biggest money fears, while just under a quarter of those questioned said they were scared by the general state of their finances.
The survey of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by Gocompare.com, found that 27 per cent were worried about gas and electricity bills and 24 per cent were worried about the general state of their finances.
Another 21 per cent said that their biggest worry at the moment was the thought of paying for Christmas.
Other fears included the prospect of losing their job (11 per cent) and credit, store card and loan debt (11 per cent), while 10 per cent said they were horrified by poor money management.
One in ten admitted to spending more than they earn each month.
Claire Peate, customer insights manager at Gocompare.com, said: “The first step in managing your money more effectively is to take an honest look at your finances so that you can see what you have against what you owe.”
