TOP 1980s band Heaven 17 will join the line-up for a concert organised as a tribute to Sheffield DJ Dave Kilner.

Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Glenn Gregory, who were involved in another iconic city band, the Human League, will play the event at Sheffield City Hall next month.

Mr Kilner died last year aged 48, and the concert, Dave Kilner – A Night to Remember, has been organised by wife Shirley and the couple’s daughters Rebecca and Nicola.

The DJ worked for several local radio stations, including Peak FM, Magic AM and Radio Hallam and its successor Hallam FM, beginning his radio career as a 17-year-old trainee.

When he left the presenter’s chair he became fundraising manager for Help a Hallam Child, and the concert will raise money for a new children’s charity formed in his memory.

Mrs Kilner said: “We are delighted that Heaven 17 have confirmed to play the show. It’s great that so many Sheffield stars want to get involved with the cause.

“We are currently talking to other big names from the city and are very confident of making further announcements in the coming weeks about additional acts joining the line-up.”

Other entertainment stars and bands linked to Sheffield who have been confirmed so far include Joe Elliot and Rick Savage from Def Leppard, crooner Tony Christie and singer John Parr. Television impressionist John Culshaw has also agreed to take part in the show.

Tickets for the show, which will take place on April 30, are on sale, priced 25 and 30, and organisers said all money raised will be used to help disadvantaged children in South Yorkshire.

Tickets can be reserved by calling the Sheffield City Hall box office on 0114 278 9789.
