Help for haemophiliacs barred

AN attempt to compensate NHS victims of infection by contaminated blood looks doomed after being blocked by the Government.

The Contaminated Blood (Support for Infected and Bereaved Persons) Bill passed swiftly through its Lords stages but the measure has repeatedly been blocked by Government whips from getting a second reading in the Commons.

Yesterday another shout of “object” prevented it from making further progress.

The Bill would establish a compensation package for people infected by contaminated blood. Lord Morris of Manchester has said haemophilia patients had twice been “infected en masse”.
