Help make a splash for charity

Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon and swimmer Duncan Goodhew launch Swimathon 2010.

Swimmers from Sheffield who have not yet signed up for the event, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation, are being advised to do so before Sunday, when registration fees will double.

The 9.50 registration fee was halved during January.

Marie Curie fundraiser for South Yorkshire, Katie Grinter, said: “The charity receives more than 1.5m to cover the cost of our nursing service to care for terminally ill cancer patients in their own homes from this event, so the more people who take part, the better.”

Swimathons will be taking place at Ponds Forge, Hillsborough Leisure Centre and Westfield Sports Centre between Friday, April 16 and Sunday, April 18.

Until the end of the month, the half-price registration fee applies to people who sign up to swim 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k on Swimathon weekend.
