Thousands of runners will take to the streets of York and surrounding villages on October 11 for the event, which since its launch in 2013, has raised millions of pounds for charity.

Organisers say a range of volunteers are needed to help ensure runners and spectators stay safe on the day.

Roles include marshalling, helping out at the start and finish and along the route, at drink stations, baggage store and to hand the runners their hard-earned medals and goody bags.

Event director Charlie Tatman said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of the event and we could not put it on without them.

“I know our volunteers find it very rewarding to help at such a high-profile event that supports so many good causes. The effort they put in and the super atmosphere they help create is greatly appreciated by all the runners.

“Anyone who can spare us a few hours on October 11th will be warmly welcomed. I would particularly urge regular runners who don’t have an event on marathon day to contact us. Volunteering at a run is an excellent way for them to give something back to the sport they enjoy.”

Volunteers should be aged 16 or over, although children aged 14 and 15 can help out if supervised by an adult who is also registered to volunteer.

Groups are welcomed, whether it is a group of friends or family, a Scout or Girl Guide group or a sports club.
