Help wanted with drowning inquiry

Police are appealing for information to help them trace the last movements of a man who was found drowned in the River Aire in the Horsforth area of Leeds.

The body of 45-year-old Trevor Whittaker, from Horsforth, was recovered from a stretch of the river near the Pollard Lane bridge at about 1.20pm on Saturday after police were called by passers-by.

A post-mortem examination showed he died from drowning.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers have already established that Mr Whittaker was last seen at about 10.40am in Rodley Lane near the A6120 Outer Ring Road.

They want to trace anyone who saw him between then and the time his body was found.

Mr Whittaker is described as white, with greying hair and a beard and was wearing glasses. He was wearing a beige anorak, a white shirt with blue horizontal stripes, grey/light blue jogging bottoms and black trainers with white soles.

Officers said he was possibly walking with a stick.
