Henry Boot Construction is creating jobs in Barnsley after taking on 17 unemployed people to work full-time on a £120m retail and leisure development.
The Sheffield-based firm created the opportunities in partnership with the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP), to support local people looking to forge a career in the construction industry.
The 17 jobs are for the construction of The Glass Works phase one in the town.
Ryan O’Loughlin, project director for Henry Boot Construction, said: “As part of our ongoing collaboration with the DWP, it’s our joint aim to create further employment opportunities as the scheme progresses and support local people looking to forge a career in the construction industry.”
Stephen Phillips has taken on the role of a multi purpose labourer.
He said: “Working with Henry Boot on The Glass Works phase one project has been a fantastic opportunity for me.
“I am from Barnsley so to be able to contribute to the new development is exciting. Henry Boot Construction has also provided me with a number of training opportunities to allow me to expand my skillset.”
