Heritage highlights on health walks

VISITORS to the Heartbeat village of Goathland will find out there is more to its past than the TV series at the first of a series of free guided walks to encourage healthier lifestyles.

The walk, looking at items of folklore, history and local interest in Goathland on Wednesday, is the first in a series organised by national park and NHS bosses.

Ranging from one to five miles, the walks take place on the first Sunday and Wednesday of every month from March through to November and range from a gentle stroll on easy terrain to longer challenging walks.

Don Burluraux, Health Walks Co-ordinator for the NHS Middlesbrough, said: “Walking in a Health Walk group is a great way to start walking and to stay motivated. You’ll socialise and make new friends and discover new places in your neighbourhood and surrounding countryside.”
