Heroes’ welcome for charity riders

Cyclists who pedalled 1,000 miles for charity were given a heroes’ welcome and a guard of honour as they rode back from their epic journey which raised more than £10,000.

More than 100 members of civilian and military personnel at RAF Leeming turned out to cheer exhausted members of the Ride for RAFA team home after their tough battle. The Ride for RAFA was the culmination of months of training for the North Yorkshire team, who were pedalling for the Royal Air Forces Association.

The charity provides welfare service and support to serving and former members of the RAF and their families.

Two riders were unfortunately lost to injury en route. Wing Commander Martin Jeffries said: “I would like to congratulate you all on what has been an absolutely epic effort, not just over the over the last 10 days, but also during the weeks and months spent preparing for the expedition.”
