Hidden treasures aim to draw visitors

HIDDEN treasures of the Yorkshire Dales ranging from Bronze Age dwellings to derelict miners' cottages are being showcased to tourism businesses to try to boost the multi-million pound industry.

Owners of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses are being given a rundown on some of less well-known attractions across Swaledale to ensure visitors make the most of their trip to North Yorkshire.

Operators will be able to meet colleagues and officers from the local tourism partnership and Business Link plus take a look at a visitor centre at Hazel Brow Farm, which is hosting the event.

Ruth Calvert, who has helped organise the event and helps run Hazel Brow Farm, said: "There's an amazing amount of stuff still going on today, from traditional land management skills...to the skills of local carpenters, potters, quilters, rug makers and knitters who keep tradition and cottage industry alive in the dale."

The event, which is free to accommodation providers within a 30-mile radius of Reeth, is on Thursday from 11am until 3pm.
