High IQ society holds out invitation

RESIDENTS in Hull can find out how clever they are when the high IQ society Mensa comes to the city next month.

Supervised IQ tests, costing £17.50 a time, will be held at the Mercure Royal Hotel in Ferensway on Saturday, September 10, from 2pm.

Everyone who scores within the top two per cent of the population will be invited to join Mensa, which has 23,000 members and is the oldest organisation of its kind in the world.

The society, which currently has 92 members in Hull, welcomes people from all walks of life with the objective of enjoying each other’s company and aims to provide them with a “stimulating intellectual and social environment” and to promote human intelligence.

Chris Tyler, chairman of British Mensa, said: “There are a variety of reasons why people take the IQ test, whether it is simply curiosity or as a challenge, but many people are pleasantly surprised by their IQ score. A high IQ can also be beneficial when applying for university or for progression in the job market; it can make you stand out as a candidate.”
