High-speed train collides with truck

A passenger train collided with a truck in Germany in an incident which left two carriages derailed.

One passenger was seriously hurt and nine others were slightly injured when the InterCityExpress high-speed Frankfurt to Paris train hit a rubbish truck after the vehicle slid down a wet slope near Lambrecht, about 90 miles south-west of Frankfurt. Police spokesman Reza Ahmari said the truck driver was able to get out of his vehicle before the crash.

The train driver managed to slow down before the impact by applying the emergency brakes. There were 320 passengers on board.

Railway operator Deutsche Bahn says trains from Frankfurt to Paris were being redirected via Strasbourg.
