Hiker trampled by cows ‘in stable condition’

A MAN from Halifax is recovering in hospital after he was trampled by cows and nearly killed.

The 46-year-old, suffered life-threatening injuries including a fractured skull and chest injuries, the Great North Air Ambulance, (GNAA), said. He and his wife had been walking on a public footpath near Barnard Castle, County Durham, when they were attacked by cows on Thursday. His wife escaped uninjured.

The man was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

A spokesman for GNAA said yesterday: “He is now in a stable condition which is an improvement on last night.”
