Road closure and bus diversions had to be put in place on Saturday after fire tore through
the three-storey former Rising Sun in Kirkstall
Road, near to the junction with Willow
Road. The fire broke out at around 5am and severely damaged the building, which until recently had been a furniture store after ceasing trading as a pub some years ago. The building was Grade II listed and featured in the CAMRA guide to historic pub interiors. The A65 was closed between Haddon Road and Willow Road while the building was made safe. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause was under investigation.
