Historic mill to stage art exhibition

Five Yorkshire artists have picked up their paintbrushes to showcase their work at a historic west Leeds mill.

The owners of Sunny Bank Mills are reviving the site in Farsley
by taking inspiration from Bradford’s World Heritage Site, Salts Mill.

The scheme, which will see the mill transformed into a business centre and leisure facility, is aimed at reclaiming its status as one of the
west Leeds village’s biggest employers.

A new striking exhibition will be unveiled today, giving five Yorkshire artists the chance to showcase their colourful ceramics and sculptures.

Richard Snowden’s cheeky ladies and Yorkshire landscapes and Eric Moss’s kissing pots are just some of the works going on show.

The exhibition will run until Sunday, September 29.

The mill, which was also once the home of Yorkshire soap operas Emmerdale and Heartbeat, is being regenerated by owners and directors John and William Gaunt.

The £2.5m scheme is aimed at helping the mill reclaim its status as the major employer in Farsley.

It was revealed earlier this year that the new art gallery will showcase local artists and provide a creative space.

Speaking at the time, William Gaunt said: “We want to support local artists in Leeds. It is helping to put Sunny Bank Mills on the map.”
