History comes to life at Sheffield Fayre

MORE than 600 history re-enactors, playing out scenes from Ancient Rome to the Second World War, will be at this year's Sheffield Fayre, to be held at Norfolk Park on Sunday, August 29, and Monday, August 30.

A sideshow celebrating the life of showman P T Barnum will also be at the event. Supplied by Sheffield University's National Fairground Archive, attractions include oddities such as a flea circus and a girl in a goldfish bowl.

Sheffield Fayre spokesman Marge Allen said: "The event has grown into one of the most popular outdoor festivals of its kind in the country. Nowhere else can you see so much for free and the addition of a true pioneer of modern-day entertainment in the shape of P T Barnum makes Sheffield Fayre a true must-see event for 2010."

The event also includes the Sheffield Horticultural Show, fairground rides, a beach, a craft tent and a charity duck race.
