Hockney shares walls with Picasso

Paintings by Pablo Picasso, including The Three Dancers, above, will be shown alongside works by British artists in a new exhibition.

Picasso and Modern British Art explores the Spanish artist’s influence on British greats, from Henry Moore to David Hockney.

The Tate Britain show features 150 works from public and private collections from around the world, including more than 60 Picasso paintings.

For the first time, a 1984 Hockney painting – Christopher Without His Glasses On – is shown next to the painting that inspired it – Picasso’s portrait of the mother of his mistress Marie-Therese Walter.

Curators have also placed Moore’s Reclining Figure (1936) with a Picasso painting that may have inspired the British sculptor, The Source (1921).
