Hockney works under the spotlight

The early works of one of Yorkshire’s most revered and famed artists is to be the subject of a talk at a gallery in his home city.

David Hockney’s formative works will be discussed at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery by Christopher Sykes, his biographer.

The talk is in support of the David Hockney: The Early Years exhibition currently on show at the Bradford Council-run
gallery.

His hour-long talk will be given on Sunday February 10, starting at 2pm.

Bradford Council has also organised a special screening of Bruno Wolheim’s celebrated film David Hockney: A Bigger Picture (2009), which follows the Bradford-born artist over a three-year period as he paints the East Yorkshire landscape.

Coun Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s executive member responsible for culture, said: “These free events will help give people a fascinating insight into the early work of David Hockney and will encourage them to look around this really interesting exhibition.”

Cartwright Hall Art Gallery is located in Lister Park.

Entry is free and it is open Tuesday – Friday between 10am-4pm; and Saturday and Sunday between 11am-4pm.
