Holiday park to ban carson Green Sunday

One of the biggest and best known holiday parks on the North Yorkshire coast will be banning cars for a day as part of a Big Green Weekend to highlight its environmental record.

Holidaymakers at the Primrose Valley Holiday Park and beautyspot near Filey will be asked not to use their vehicles on Sunday, July 18, as "Jolly Green Giant" ecologist David Bellamy visits Haven Holidays' flagship resort.

Camp bosses will be laying on a special train to encourage families to hang up their car keys for the day.

Other events during the weekend will be a pedal boat race for owners of holiday homes on the park, a green fancy dress competition, a bird of prey display, a butterfly exhibition, making bird and bat boxes and a presentation about the local geology.

Primrose Valley holds many awards for its eco activities in areas such as protecting wildlife, energy conservation and recycling. Among wildlife found on the park are rabbits, foxes as well as some rare birds and a number of crested newts, a protected species.

Jonathan Waldie, Assistant General Manager at Primrose Valley, said: "We're having a car free day between 10am and 4pm. The park covers a large area and to help families get around we'll be operating a land train with two carriages."

"We recycle tons of cardboard, glass and tins every year and the weekend is about making our guests aware of enjoying our wonderful countryside and coastline in an environmentally friendly way."
