Holiday park near historic folly to open

A NEW £800,000 holiday park close to one of North Yorkshire’s most treasured follies will be launched next week.

Plans for the 12-bed barn, eight yurts and six woodland shacks near the grade II listed Druids’ Temple between Ripon and Masham were given the go-ahead in March last year in an attempt to halt anti-social behaviour. The 18th century folly, in the grounds of the Swinton Estate, is a popular visitor attraction, but it has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour and late-night gatherings.

Construction on The Bivouac has taken nearly a year, and it will open on Monday. Record-breaking mountaineer Alan Hinkes, who became the first Briton in 2005 to conquer the world’s 14 highest peaks, officially opened the development yesterday.
