Holy alliance to help city's elderly

PENSIONERS are to benefit from a new partnership between churches in York to look after elderly worshippers and those who are not church-goers.

Church leaders are running a day of workshops on Thursday, October 21 at Clifton Parish Church on the theme of “Affirming Age”.

Organiser Derek Paterson said: “We will be exploring how churches can work together to minister to the older members of our congregation and community, and we’d like to welcome anyone to join us.

“Faith is very important to many older people, and we want to make sure that we are caring for these people as best we can.”

Churches are teaming up with Age Concern York, Older Citizens Advocacy York and the chaplains at Woodlands MS Respite centre for next’s week conference.

Mr Paterson added: “It’s important for churches to work with other agencies.

“We will also be discussing how to minister to the sick and dying, how to hold church services in care homes, and looking at ministry to people with MS and Alzheimer’s.”

The conference costs 12.50 including lunch. To book a place, contact Mr Paterson on 01904 637638.
