Holy likeness
THE Archbishop of York unveils a portrait of himself yesterday at his official residence, Bishopthorpe Palace.
Dr John Sentamu was joined by artist Jane Allison, who spent a year painting the oil on canvas. Ms Allison previously painted a portrait of Dr Sentamu while he was the Bishop of Birmingham. Her latest work joins 40 other portraits of archbishops dating from the 16th century in the palace.
The portrait features Dr Sentamu without his clerical dog collar as part of his protest over Robert Mugabe’s rule in Zimbabwe. Dr Sentamu has pledged not to wear it until Mugabe is removed from power.
