Homeless hostel on track to open

Plans are on track for the June opening of a hostel for the homeless on the outskirts of Hull city centre.

The 46-bed hostel is taking shape on a disused factory site on Great Union Street in a period when many projects along the Hull River corridor have been hit by the recession and cuts in spending.

Supports say the scheme will be a credit to Hull, providing not only accommodation, but training and support to enable homeless people to turn their lives round.

The new building is just a stone's throw from two existing hostels, Harbour Hostel in Roper Street and Dock House in St Peter Street, both of which are due to close as the sites are earmarked for redevelopment. The 3.8m project, paid for by a number of funding bodies, aims to reduce rough sleepers.
