Homes scheme in shadow of Minster goes on public display

THIS is how a new residential development in Beverley could look under plans unveiled by house builder Stamford Homes.

A total of 130 new homes will be built in Flemingate, beneath the shadow of Beverley Minster, as part of a wider multi-million pound regeneration project.

Residents are being invited to get a closer look at detailed proposals for the former tannery site tomorrow when the plans go on display Beverley Memorial Hall between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

Andy Cramer, technical director at Stamford Homes, said: "This is a very exciting project for Beverley and one that links in to a far wider redevelopment of the area.

"The finished site will greatly enhance the conservation area and improve views to the Minister."

He added: "I encourage all those with an interest in this scheme to attend our exhibition on Tuesday.

"Representatives from the team will be on hand to assist and answer any questions, and the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the plans, which will be incorporated into the proposals where possible."

Outline planning permission has been given for a development including new homes, a hotel, shops, offices, a cinema and other leisure facilities, and a new campus for East Riding College.

The residential proposals include seven large four-bedroomed homes; 17 "curved" three-bedroomed homes designed specifically for the site; 84 further three-bedroomed homes in three different designs; and 22 two-bedroomed properties.

A minimum of nine of the 130 homes would be classed as affordable – available for rent or shared ownership purchase – and would be managed by a housing association.

All would be built to level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making them 25 per cent more energy efficient than homes built in 2006.
