Honoured actor fighting on

Veteran actor John Hurt said he would continue his "constant fight" to make audiences passionate about independent films rather than Hollywood blockbusters.

The 70-year-old actor, who has starred in films such as Alien, The Elephant Man and Midnight Express, was speaking at the Bradford International Film Festival (BIFF), where he was given an Lifetime Achievement Award. He said festivals like the BIFF were a vital shop window for the work of independent film makers.

Ten films, representing the very best of Hurt's work spanning almost 50 years, will be screened during the festival, which ends on March 28.
