Hope as high-rise tenants meet MP

Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves met with representatives from West North West Homes (WNWH), the arm’s length management organisation (ALMO) which manages Leeds City Council’s housing stock.

The meeting comes following a survey that was carried out in 
west Leeds by the MP after 
receiving complaints from tenants.

Complaints about anti-social behaviour, disrepair and poor service have prompted bosses at WNWH to develop an action plan to improve high rise blocks in west Leeds.

Bosses have pledged to carry out deep cleansing of tower blocks at least twice a week and Rachel Reeves is pushing them to reintroduce a caretaker service.

The ALMO has also pledged to introduce an anti-social behaviour policy, which will ban tenants with a history of bad behaviour from living in the Clydes and Wortley towers.

Rachel Reeves told the YEP: “It was one of the most productive meetings with WNWH I have had as an MP.

“I felt for the first time we have someone who was really listening and willing to accept that many tenants have felt let down.

“This is a hugely important issue for me.

“Around one-third of people in my constituency live in social housing and what WNWH do makes a huge difference to the people I represent.”

Rachel Reeves pledged to carry on holding housing bosses to account when changes to the management of the city’s housing stock come into force.

She added: “I will continue to hold the feet of West North West Homes to the fire to make sure we get real improvements for tenants.”
