Hopes high for TV stargazing event

STARGAZERS will be hoping for clear skies above The Rosse Observatory in Pontefract next month.

Families can find out more about the night sky when West Yorkshire Astronomical Society holds its annual Stargazing Live event.

The Rosse Observatory at Carleton Grange Community Centre in Pontefract will open its doors for three nights as part of the BBC Stargazing Live event hosted by Prof Brian Cox and comedian Dara O’Briain.

The event takes place on Tuesday January 7, Wednesday January 8 and Thursday January 9. WYAS telescopes will be available for observation, depending on weather conditions. And there will be the chance to find out more about the society, along with aspects of astronomy. There will be special events each night, following the themes of the BBC coverage.

Stargazing Live at the Rosse Observatory starts at 7.30pm each night.
