Hopes of tourism boom after record requests for brochures

TOURISM chiefs in East Yorkshire are hoping for a large rise in visitors this year after receiving a record number of requests for brochures and guides to the region.

A total of 28,000 brochures have been sent out almost twice as many as last year, which Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) says represents its “most successful start to a tourism season”.

Chief executive Janet Reuben said: “The amazing demand for the new guides is excellent news for Hull and East Yorkshire’s tourism industry. This region has so much to offer to visitors that it really is an unmissable destination, and the requests we have been receiving show us that this message is hitting home with potential customers.”

VHEY has produced 260,000 brochures, including main guides featuring more than 250 accommodation providers, from intimate five-star B&Bs to city centre hotels, as well as what to see and do to get the most out of the region.

A series of pocket-sized booklets, called Welcome To A Whole Lot More Going On, have also been published, with individual guides available for Bridlington, Beverley, Hull and the region as a whole. They are being sent out to potential visitors across the UK and online, with European language versions available for distribution on the continent.

The guides include features on things to see and do, such as cycling in the Wolds, theatre visits, events and “must-visit” attractions.

Tourism is worth about £615m a year to the region’s economy and supports more than 15,000 full-time, seasonal and part-time jobs.
