Hornsea reveals vision of the future

PLANS for the £2m redevelopment of Hornsea’s South Promenade have been revealed, ahead of a public exhibition this week.

They include a new circular cafe, almost doubling the size of the leisure compound where pleasure boats are kept, and increasing the size of the commercial fisherman’s compound, adding new facilities for boat maintenance. East Riding Council, which will be seeking funding, says the scheme should meet demand in Hornsea for water sports and leisure boating, while supporting the local fishing industry.

Fishermen have been involved “every step of the way”, as have the local sea angling club and inshore lifeboat Hornsea Inshore Rescue, who currently run the leisure compound. The cafe will have a terrace and glass screen so people will be able to sit outside.

Renaissance co-ordinator Felicity Clayton said: “We want to try and secure the future of the fishing industry, but it is also about building on the leisure boating experience, which is getting more popular and which is not something we have made the most of in Hornsea in the past.”

The plans will be on show at Hornsea Town Hall from 1.30pm to 7pm tomorrow.
