A HORSE owner has been convicted of 23 counts of causing unnecessary suffering to 10 animals in her care.
Kathleen Thornton, 64, from Huntington, York, was tried in her absence by magistrates in the city after a prosecution brought by the RSPCA. Her boyfriend Donald Smithson, 72, also of Huntington, admitted 10 animal cruelty charges.
Speaking after the hearing yesterday, Insp Keira Benham, of the RPSCA, said the horses were kept in a “disgusting” living environment and that some of the horses could not walk because of their overgrown hooves. A bail warrant for Thornton was issued.
