Hospital to scrap ante-natal classes

Only teenage mothers at York Hospital will continue to benefit from the one-to-one 
instruction previously offered to all families.

NHS bosses say young mothers often do not have a partner to bring to classes and may be too bashful to go alone, so continuing to offer weekly sessions for them in closed groups will encourage them to attend.

Meanwhile, classes for couples will end in October – when expectant parents will be directed 
to the trust’s internet site to receive the information via a web-link.

Parenting charity NCT has criticised the move but bosses insist staff have considered the options against the demands of modern life and believe the pioneering move will not
