A THIEF who stole a seriously ill patient’s mobile phone while she was being treated at a Yorkshire hospital is being hunted by police.

The Samsung Galaxy phone was stolen from a bedside cabinet at York District Hospital while its owner, a 55-year-old woman, was receiving treatment for cancer.

Pc Wesley Cooper, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “This is a despicable theft.

“The thief must have known that the phone belonged to a seriously ill patient and they showed callous disregard for the effect the theft had on them.

“The phone holds treasured images of the woman’s grandchildren, which she finds of great comfort during the treatment she is receiving.”

The phone was taken between 12pm and 8pm on Saturday.
