Hotel developers searching for locally-based suppliers

DEVELOPERS behind a £30m scheme to create a luxury five-star hotel on the North Yorkshire coast have launched a recruitment drive to sign up local suppliers.

Construction work is under way in Sandsend to re-develop a stately home, Raithwaite Hall, into the 45-bedroom hotel, which is expected to open next summer and create 120 jobs.

A planning application has been submitted to transform Raithwaite Keep into 28 extra bedrooms and an exclusive spa for dogs, which would create an extra 40 jobs.

Developers from the York-based Skelwith Group are now looking to recruit suppliers in the Scarborough and Whitby areas to provide goods such as food, linen and furniture for the hotel.

The Skelwith Group's managing director, Paul Ellis, said: "Our vision for Raithwaite Hall is for it to become a worldwide destination and we want it to be a showcase for the best Scarborough and Whitby has to offer.

"We've already got some great brands on board but we are still looking for more.

"The guest experience at Raithwaite will be second to none, and to make this happen we need the best in Yorkshire to join us."

Two events will be held on Wednesday next week to give businesses the chance to meet with representatives from the Skelwith Group.

The first event will be at Scarborough Spa from 9am until noon before a second session is held at the Whitby Coliseum between 2pm and 5pm.
