Hoteliers invited to tourism showcase

HOTELIERS and guest house owners in some of Yorkshire’s most popular destinations are being given the chance to meet tourism leaders at a showcase of leading attractions.

Officials from both Welcome to Yorkshire and Scarborough Borough Council are helping organise the annual event to provide a snapshot of what is on offer in the run-up to the main season.

The move is seen as key to bolstering the multi-million pound tourism industry across the Ryedale and Scarborough districts, and ensure hotel and guest house owners have the most up-to-date information to pass on to guests.

The tourism industry in the Scarborough district alone brings in 7.5m visitors every year, and provides an annual boost of £290m to the local economy.

Representatives from 20 leading attractions including Scarborough Castle, the Captain Cook Museum in Whitby, Scarborough Sea Life Centre, Whitby Abbey and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will be at the event in March.

The showcase of attractions is running in tandem with a catering fair, and has been expanded from the inaugural event which was staged last year.

Welcome to Yorkshire’s area director, Janet Deacon, said: “This is a great opportunity for hoteliers and guest house owners to talk directly to the people behind some of the area’s best known attractions, as well as pick up leaflets and other handouts to help their guests make the most from their holiday.

“It is the second time the event is being held over two days in Scarborough and we are delighted to be working alongside the Scarborough Hospitality Association which, like Welcome to Yorkshire, works incredibly hard to maintain high standards and promote the coast as a first-class holiday destination.”

The two-day literature exchange and catering exhibition will be held at the Scarborough Spa on March 7 and 8.
