House prices up for ninth month

HOUSING market recovery appeared to accelerate during January, with prices jumping by 1.2 per cent.

The imbalance between supply and demand pushed the value of property up for the ninth month in a row, leaving the average UK home costing 163,481 – 8.6 per cent more than in January 2009.

Nationwide suggested annual house price inflation would move into double digits next month for the first time since May 2007.

The North East and West Midlands saw the biggest rise in values, at 1.9 per cent.
