Householders take up free insulation

MORE than 10,000 householders have taken advantage of a free home insulation scheme offered by Sheffield Council according to figures released by the authority.

The scheme, which offers free loft and wall cavity insulation to home owners and private tenants, launched in April 2009 and is being introduced on an area by area basis. It is now available to people living in the Gleadless Valley ward and the local councillor Coun Denise Reaney said she had been urging residents to sign up.

She added: “Many local people have contacted me to ask what the catch is, but there isn’t one. I am urging people to get in contact to sign up to the free scheme.

“All you have to do is call 0800 915 9096 and the council will take care of the rest absolutely free. With the rising cost of heating bills and the ongoing recession many people are left with the difficult choice of heating or eating.

“In a modern society this simply isn’t acceptable, and the council is doing everything it can to help.”
